What you need to know about Alopecia or hair loss and most common types of Alopecia

Alopecia is a more scientific way to say hair loss or the medical term for baldness, and it’s a condition that affects millions of people around the globe, men and women, alike. Androgenetic Alopecia is a form of hair loss that is most commonly encountered. It is also known as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. Androgenetic Alopecia means that the hair is thinning to an almost transparent state, in both, men or women, which leads to its fall.

Androgenetic alopecia is caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors. First, it is believed to be a hereditary form of hair loss. Secondly, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a derivative of the male hormone testosterone, is the main responsible for androgenetic alopecia. DHT causes scalp hair loss by inducing a change in the hair follicles on the scalp.

There is also another form of hair loss like Telogen Effluvium, which is probably the second most common form of hair loss dermatologists see, and happens when hair simply falls more than normal and there is a general thinning of the hair. This condition is however temporary. Telogen effluvium is when some stress causes hair roots to be pushed prematurely into the resting state, and can be acute or chronic. It happens when the body does not receive enough nutrients and vitamins, or it’s under a greater stress for a long period of time.
